FEATURED SPEAKER – Richard E. Collins, M.D.
The Cooking Cardiologist®
Effectively Taking Health to Heart
“Cook well with nutrition boosters like natural plant sterols and live
long and healthy,” said Richard Collins, M.D., The Cooking
Cardiologist®. The National Cholesterol Education Program recommends 2
grams of plant sterols per day to lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
cholesterol. Natural phytosterols are found in vegetables, fruits,
vegetable oils, legumes, nuts and grains. Studies show LDL cholesterol
can be reduced up to 15 percent through daily use of phytosterols.
Attend this session to learn how The Cooking Cardiologist educates
patients on how to manage heart disease risks through changes in diet
and lifestyle. According to Dr. Collins, his mission is to win the fight
against heart disease by cooking and creating delicious, satisfying
foods that include plant sterols and omega-3s. Plant sterols block the
absorption of cholesterol in the intestine while omega-3s decrease
triglyceride levels and make blood platelets less sticky. Plant sterols
in products like margarine spreads and cooking oils are a great way to
use fats in recipes while at the same time reducing cholesterol levels.
Listen as he explains why it’s okay to consume plant sterols if you are
taking statins to lower cholesterol.
